![]() Those documents simply are not going to work well on the iPad version of Word. This could be a big deal for those who have standardized document formats for work that use custom fonts. Neither are any custom fonts you’ve installed. Of note, none of the system iOS fonts are visible here, so fonts like Helvetica and Avenir are nowhere to be found. You can see these from the font menu and each font is a quick download away. As we’ll talk about in the next section, not everything has made the transition over to the iPad, but most of the core functionality is here and is presented in a less overwhelming way.įonts: You can of course do basic things like format text, and Microsoft kindly included all of the fonts they bundle with the desktop apps here too, so the odds are low of you getting the dreaded “resolve fonts?” dialog box. One of the things that has made a lot of people dislike Word over the years is the obscene number of features the app offers. This will be either a positive or negative thing depending on who you ask, but one of the things that I personally enjoy about Word for the iPad is that it feels like a lot of the cruft you get from the desktop app has been either hidden from view or removed entirely. I still wouldn’t recommend it for people writing for the web, but I could totally see how this is an experience people would want for longer form writing or creating printable documents they want to share with others. As someone who usually writes for the web, Word is not usually my go-to writing app, but this article has been written entirely in Word for the iPad and it has been a pretty enjoyable experience. If you’re willing to jump through these hoops, Word for the iPad is a generally pleasant experience. Currently, only iPad Pro users strictly need an Office 365 subscription to access full functionality. So if you have a standard iPad or iPad Mini, then you get editing functions for free. These plans start at $5.99/month for individuals and come with access to all the main Office apps and 1TB of OneDrive storage, so it’s a pretty good deal, but again, some people will not want another subscription, so this could be a turn off as well.Īs a brief aside, Microsoft has some weird device size factors that they use to offer editing for free to users on iPads smaller than 10 inches. If you plan on using Word for the iPad, I highly suggest you also commit to keeping your documents in OneDrive so you get the best possible experience.Īnother thing to note up front is that the app is a free download and will let you view Word documents without paying a dime, but if you want to edit or create documents, you must be an Office 365 subscriber. There are a non-trivial number of people who will see this as a deal-breaker, and there is no shortage of low reviews on the App Store for just these reasons. for syncing your files between devices, then these features poof away. If you are using iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. For example, the collaboration and auto-save functions that make the app truly useful only work if you are also storing your documents in OneDrive. That said, this is more true if you are willing to lock yourself into Microsoft’s ecosystem. As we’ll talk about more later, this is not a carbon copy of the desktop app, but it is a feature-rich app that lets you do quite a bit of work in Word documents you create alone or are using to collaborate with others. Microsoft Word for the iPad is a well-made, high-quality word processing app that will likely be all most people need to get their Office-related work done from their favorite tablet. ![]() It was an announcement that blindsided, overjoyed, and reaffirmed my love for the easy-to-learn yet hard-to-master fighting game. So when the announcement that Persona 4 Arena Ultimax would come to Steam in a port, I ran out into the streets and heard the church bells ring. Content creators continue to post videos on this anime-inspired arcade fighting game released nearly a decade ago, and they still manage to reach an audience of thousands. ![]() ![]() I won’t call it anything more than the niche outing into the fighting game community that it is, but the fans are nothing but dedicated. Hours and hours were spent grinding in the training room, trying to perfect that elusive and difficult combo, or working on tech that I could spring onto my opponents.Īnd Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a loyal game. But what came from my simple wanting for more Persona 4 content was an introduction to a vast and wonderful genre of gaming. I know plenty of other people in the same position, as the Persona 4 spin-off mostly appealed to my love for Persona 4 Golden. But there is a truth to the sentiment: Persona 4 Arena Ultimax gave birth to my love for fighting games. More than often, I joke that I was born and raised by this game. I legitimately do not feel this will have a future as a competitive fighting staple, despite the cool premise and controls.I consider Persona 4 Arena Ultimax to be one of the cornerstones of my gaming career, oddly enough. ![]() As a result, I have to actually suggest grabbing Persona 4 Arena Ultimax for its single player content instead. It’s not entirely bad per se, but the issue lies in the fact its online infrastructure does NOT support rollback netcode, making it feel a bit more dated and clunkier than most fighting games out in the market. I have one main gripe with this game, however, and that’s with its multiplayer. As a result, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax also features a ton of playable Persona 3 fighters in its rosters, ultimately making it feel almost like a sequel to both games, and a fanservice filled love letter to fans of both titles. The main draw of this second campaign is the inclusion of a lot of returning Persona 3 characters in its plot. The second campaign is a direct sequel to the first one, literally being set a day after its predecessor ends. I mean, how can I say no to a fighter who brings a shiba inu to a brawl? Add in the fact that the Persona 4 protagonist, Yu, actually talks on his own, and you’re actually getting an even more investing story this time around. Sure, a good chunk of these campaigns is structured like a visual novel, but it rarely felt boring. They are the canonical sequel to Persona 4, and as expected, feature the same pristine level of storytelling, with the characters you know and love. The reason for the sheer amount of dialogue scenes and voice acting is due to Persona 4 Arena Ultimax‘s defining features: its two story modes. There are even some fully animated cutscenes, and they are great. Finally, every single story-driven segment in any of its single player modes contains the same high-quality portraits from Persona 4. The menu art style feels like it was taken straight from the Vita/PS2 gem. It retains the same phenomenal soundtrack and voice actors from the original P4 game. Presentation-wise, there’s more to this game than just “a BlazBlue clone with Persona characters” in terms of its in-game graphics. Yu being able to speak in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is proof that silent protagonists are lame. As always, have a Pro Controller or a third party Joy-Con with a better analog stick and d-pad, as trying to perform moves with the original Joy-Cons is an exercise in patience and masochism. Your characters can attack normally with their weapons, and then summon their respective Personas to inflict additional damage and extend their combos, with a respectable degree of responsiveness and not that many buttons being used. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax features its own combat system which is pretty easy to learn, but hard to master. Having the best fighting game creators in the industry handling your Persona sequel is equal parts bold and smart, and as a result, this game rocks.ĭespite sharing so many elements from BlazBlue, this isn’t just a mere clone of that series. In fact, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax seems to run on the same engine as BlazBlue, featuring similar visuals, controls (albeit more simplified in order to appeal to Persona‘s more RPG-oriented audience), and modes. Arc System Works is easily my favorite fighting game developer in the business, being responsible for games like BlazBlue, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and of course, the Guilty Gear franchise. Before diving into Persona 4 Arena Ultimax proper, we have to talk about the studio behind its development. CELINE PARIS SAINT-HONORE HAUTE PARFUMERIE. This can be a real concern with modular apps on Apple’s mobile devices as there’s a certain amount of attrition and it wouldn’t be very fruitful to invest your time in learning a modular app only to have it become another piece of abandonware. ScriptSONIC is an app that uses java script but the developer didn’t get enough traction so the app isn’t for sale anymore and their website and forum have been closed. Multi touch support, better and more comprehensive MIDI I/O, AUv3 support, and sample support are the features I eagerly await for in Audulus 4. It was very tedious to have to create a patch and then redo it into a playable patch. What I didn’t like about Audulus 3 was the lack of separation between the programming process and the GUI. The users on the Audulus forum are very knowledgeable and very helpful. One of the rarer and crucial functionalities that Audulus offers is a sample delay so you can utilize real-time feedback loops which are critical in many DSP operations such filters. More significantly I could understand how other people’s patches worked, learn from them, and modify or incorporate them into my own patches. I personally like Audulus quite a lot because once I understood the significance of the lights and that I could put output components wherever I wanted in my patches to find out what was really happening versus what I thought was happening, I was able to learn how to make my own patches. The best modular environment is a very subjective evaluation. Mozaic and MidiFire cover the MIDI modular aspects of MIDI. The most difficult part of using the app is probably trying to figure out what all of the modules do.ĭrambo offers a lot of modular capability in a relatively easy to use format. MiRack has lots of modules with all sorts of options. Spectrum has a lot of granular and spectral functionality as do Alexander Zolotov’s apps (e.g. The Wotja app has lots of the functionality you’re looking for plus JavaScript. There is RunloopSound for learning and creating Csound. If you haven’t already checked it out, you might want to look into MobMuPlat, PdParty, Holonist.ist or zMors modular as they all have some Pd support. I hope it's still receiving active development. But if you plan to work inside the modular environment alone, Zmors is unique with it's IAA and AUv3 hosting ability. It doesn't always work a expected, especially when splitting cv and gate from midi modules. It doesn't have a great deal of modules - but it can host Auv3's and modulate exposed parameters. Finding them in modular environments are going to be even more difficult. Spectral is quite niche, Izotope and apeSoft specialize with it, but even on desktop there's not a great deal of spectral effects. There may be some granular modules - I don't know if it's got Clouds yet. Got lot's of real world modules like the Mutable Instruments catalogue. MiRack is closest to a hardware euroack workflow. Handles polyphony better than any other IOS modular. Granular is on the roadmap, but not yet available. Plenty of maths, several sampler modules. It's fresh out so it's getting a lot of attention, and great roadmap for updates and improvements. ![]() Drambo is hands down the easiest/fastest modular workflow on IOS. |
